2015 for Xiaomi was not very good; the company could not get out of its ‘budget smartphone image’. Firstly, many customers did not take Xiaomi as a premium smartphone company, but now the mobile enthusiasts believe on the Xiaomi as firm introduced Redmi Note 3 which is a budget cell phone and has a heavy demand among the buyers. Last year, the Chinese manufacturer made its foot more strong in the Indian market by launching its new flagship Xiaomi Mi5 with new features and specifications. It is loaded with an excellent camera. This smartphone is designed keeping in mind all the strong features.

Mi5 is the most expensive phone of Xiaomi, and it presents firm different from the ‘budget’ image. This phone is available in almost half price from Samsung Galaxy S7 with all top-specifications. The mobile has the ability to change the mind of premium buyers. Today, we will review this 2017 Xaiomi MI5 and will know how much this budget flagship satisfies the expectations.
Xiaomi Mi5 Design and Look
Earlier, Xiaomi did great work on the design Radmi Note 3 and now the company has given a royal touch to Mi5’s design. The noteworthy thing is that the company has manufactured the flagship smartphone Mi5 with a completely different design and style compared to the budget smartphone Redmi Note 3. The phone gives a feeling like a premium smartphone and its design has not been compromised due to its mid-range. The phone is very light and its weight is only 129 grams.
Mi5 clearly gives a glimpse of Samsung’s A and S-series smartphones, especially Samsung Galaxy A8. The edge of the phone and the curved rear is exactly the same, and the forwarded side of the screen is the same as the physical home button and a thin border around the screen.
There are front camera, proximity sensor, LED indicator and earpiece in top of the phone while Mi logo in top left corner. There are capacitive buttons with the home button. Both capacitive buttons are backlit when touched. Apart from this, the Home button is also a touch-sensitive during the use of the phone, which can be switched at its convenience.
The entire frame of the phone is made of metal except the top and bottom plastic antenna line. Dual Finnish look with a metal look makes the look of the phone brighter and its reflexive edges make the phone more beautiful. The power and volume buttons are on the right side and the dual-sim tray is on the left side. The 3.5mm socket and infrared ammeter are at the top and USB Type C support and grill are given below. The right grill has a speaker while the microphone is given in the left grill.
The Mi5 rear is a glass panel with side curves such as the Samsung’s premium smartphone. The rear panels are also reflexive, however, its surface is of a magnified magnets and it will need to be cleaned continuously. Although there is no need to remove the rear panel but the slightest visible position on the edges reveals that it can easily get out. The review unit we got was a white color variant but we think the black color variant of the phone looks much more beautiful.
Xiaomi MI5 is featured with a 5.15 inch full-HD IPS LCD display with a density of 428 ppi. The display is protected with corning gorilla glass. Although the flagship smartphone has a 1440 pixel high-resolution screen, Xiaomi says, it was necessary to limit the full-HD resolution screen to make the screen thickness and thinner the phone. The display is very sharp and we did not get any lack of details in it. Fion’s screen is brighter and due to its brightness, it can be easily used in sunlight.
Specification and software
Mi5 is the first smartphone officially available with Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor in India. And with Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge, it is one of the most powerful devices in the Indian market. You can buy Today. The Mi5 smartphone comes with 3 GB RAM, 32GB internal storage, VOLETE support, NFC, one Infrared AMT and Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 technology. Our review unit was equipped with Quick Charge 3.0 technology but we have been told that the MI-5 Quick Charge 2.0 in India will be equipped with. With the 2.0 support charger, this phone is charged in 90 minutes.
Apart from this, the smartphone has more noteworthy features including Wi-Fi 802.11 N / AC, Bluetooth 4.2, 4G support with dual sim connectivity, 3000 mAh battery and USB type-c port for connectivity and charging. The shortage in the phone is that it is not expendable storage. The phone does not support microSD card, so that the user will get 32 GB inbuilt storage. However, Mi5 is available in 64 GB and 128 GB variants.
Xiaomi Mi5 comes with MIUI 7 on Android. It’s a single layer but perfectly clean and well organized. The icon and menu design is good and, in the past, it gives a much better experience than the other user interface provided by other phone makers in the past. The phone also receives frequent updates for the user interface. However, the user interface is not like stock Android but it’s definitely a better UI.
One of the most important features of the phone is the fingerprint sensor, which can be configured up to five fingerprints. This image printer can not only unlock the phone, but it also allows child mode to activate and deactivate, file explorer to be secure and selective other app can also be secured. MI5’s fingerprint sensor works the most accurate and fast in all the fingerprint sensors we have ever seen.
Xiaomi Mi5 Camera Features
Xiaomi Mi5 sports with a 16 megapixel rear camera with dual LED tone while the phone features with a 4 ultrasonic front camera. The 4k video recording can be done from the rear camera while the full camera can record full-HD video with up to 30 fps. There is also optical image stabilization for the rear camera, which helps in recording fast photos and videos.
Xiaomi’s camera app looks a lot easier to see once, but there are some drawbacks in it. Toggle from video to video is easy to toggle. The camera app has options like HDR, flash and camera switches. Apart from this, switches on the right side while the swipe from the left side, while many switches can be seen on the timer, panorama, and manual. The settings can also be accessed from here to control the resolution and shutter. In order to access the settings for the video, you must first go to Video mode and then repeat this process. There is a scarcity which we saw is that Slo-motion mode is not available while shooting at full-HD or 4 resolutions. Slo-motion video can be shot if you switch to 720 pixels in settings.
Talking about the camera, we liked its performance very well. In the regular light, the photos come in bright, colorful and intense Sharpe. However, if you zoom, you may see a lack of detail. Talk about focus, there is not too much deficiency in it. And even in dark light photos are good If you put the camera on auto-HDR mode, you will get great quality pictures.
You can also see the photos in low light but lack of detailing. Close-up shot and video quality are also fine. 4k has good results on video recording. Selfie also comes in low light. Better pictures can be taken with larger pixels than a 4-ultrapixel camera. Not like quality like the iPhone 6S and the Samsung Galaxy S7, but MI5 is definitely a good option for smartphone photography.
Xiaomi Mi5 performance
The performance of the Xiaomi MI5, equipped with the Snapdragon 820 processor, is very impressive. We did not face any problem in unlocking the phone, opening and closing the app. Playing heavy games in the phone and watching videos is also easy. However, MI 5 is slightly warmer while doing serious work. And at the time of charging it can feel a bit warm on the rear of the phone.
In our Benchmark Test, I also found great statistics from Mi5.
In our Video Loop Test, the 3000 MAH battery given in MI5 was up to 13 hours and 5 minutes. On the other hand, in the normal use, the phone runs on high screen brightness and on the 4G network, despite being on the whole day. Audio quality coming from the phone’s singer speaker on cellular and Wi-Fi connectivity can be called correct.
Our Verdict: Why You Should Buy Xiaomi Mi5
Though Xiaomi is known for making budget smartphone, but by launching MI5, the company has shown that it also has the capability to make premium devices. Although many people may have trouble making this price and making a premium device of Xiaomi, but we think it is time to move forward and we need to give respect to the firm as it deserves. Xiaomi Mi5 is a better flagship smartphone in this price.
Everything in Mi5 can be considered as experimental design, excellent performance, improved camera quality and excellent battery life. But the biggest drawback in the phone is not to come with its expandable storage and it comes with only 32 GB storage variants in India. Even with the light weight of the phone, you may find that this phone is not made for serious work like other metal body phones. Apart from this, there is another big thing that a flash-cell model, which means that there might be some difficulty in buying Mi5.
If you want to spend more money and want better material quality and texture and design and premium features and brands, then you can choose Samsung and other brands of smartphones. But in the Rs. 16,999, Xiaomi Mi5 is a great smartphone according to price and feature. If you are able to buy the phone in a flash cell, then definitely it will not disappoint you.
