2018 Honor 9 lite review India: Best Camera Phone at Low Price

Honor 9 lite review

It is very difficult to get a smartphone with a good camera in the budget segment. The most companies try to provide better processor, more RAM and storage to attract buyers in this segment. However, in recent times, some budget smartphones have been launched that claim they have good cameras. One of them is Xiaomi  Redmi Y1 handset of the new Y series of Xiaomi. However, this phone did not affect us too much  in the review.

Now Huawei Honor brand has introduced the Honor 9 Light and has tried to give a more powerful choices to the customers . We would like to tell you that this is an affordable handset that comes with four cameras. This is not the first smartphone of the company that has four-camera, the company did some similar effort through Honor 9i. However, this time the company has kept a new option for a larger market by keeping the Honor 9 Light price at Rs. 10,999. The Honor 9 Light feature is not limited to just the camera, its specification is also worth considering. At first glance, this phone had given a positive impression. Now it has to be seen whether Honor 9 Lite is able to give a new definition of the Budget Segment in the case of performance.

Honor 9 Lite Design and Look

Honor 9 lite Display

Honor 9 Light reminds a lot of Honor 8. It was the company’s first flagship smartphone in 2016. Due to the 2.5 d perfume glass, the rear part gives you a bit more sense of mirror. However, on Honor’s website it has been cleansed that this effect is only limited to Sapphire Blue and Glacier Gray Variants. There will be no such effect in Midnight Black. This is largely like the Moto X4. The glass of the display is also curved at the front. For this reason, the grip of the phone gets better. By the way, this feature is also a drawback. The phone easily slips in the hands and it also has fingerprints. The frame is made of plastic. This has been done to keep the price low. Because of this, the phone gets lighter and at many times you will feel that the phone is not in your pocket.

Honor 9 Lite Build Quality and Finish

Honor 9 Lite Build Quality

According to our liking, the SIM tray should also have the rest of the phone’s body color. But due to lack of it, it looks different. Apart from this, we have no complaints with build quality and finish. Volume and power buttons are plastic, but their response is good. SIM tray is a hybrid. That is, you can use a microSD card of up to 256 GB with two Nano SIM cards, or a SIM card at a time. 3.5mm headphone socket and micro-USB port are at the bottom of the phone. Here the speaker grill has also got place. Once again, it is disappointing for Honor to not use the USB Type-C port. It seems that the company wants to limit this hardware feature to just the expensive phones.

Honor 9 Lite Display

We love the Honor 9 Light display as it is a full-HD + IPS panel. The screen is 5.65 inches and its aspect ratio is 18: 9. This type of display is now in trend. Due to the long display, the edges have become extremely thin, which enhances the beauty of the phone. In spite of this, there is space for selfie cameras on top of the screen on the front panel and for the company’s logo at the bottom. The brightness of the panel is adequate and color reproduction is also fine. It is not easy to get to the fingertips of one hand every corner of the long display, but there are many gestures available to help you. As you can open the notification shade by swiping down the fingerprint sensor. There is also the Navigation Dock, like iOS’s Assistive Touch. One-handled mode will also be available

Honor 9 Lite Fingerprint Sensor

Honor 9 Light has a spherical fingerprint sensor on the rear side. It quickly recognizes fingerprints. In addition to unlocking the screen, you can keep apps safe by using fingerprint sensors and create virtual safe for private files. This sensor can be used for different types of gestures, such as taking photos, lifting a phone call or photographing. These gestures will work with any finger. In the retail box you will find a charger, data cable, sim ejector tool. The phone does not come with the headset.

Honor 9 Lite Specifications and Features

Honor 9 Lite specifications and features

Despite keeping the price low, Honor has not compromised the specification of 9 light. Many of its specifications are Honor 7X and Honor 9I, which are more costly than this phone. The phone has used its Octa-Core Kirin 659 processor. There are two variants of phones based on RAM and storage. One of these is 3 GB RAM and 32 GB of storage. The second is 4 GB RAM and 64 GB of storage, which we have reviewed. While using the phone, we found that 2 GB RAM works only throughout the day. You will get 2 GB free all the time. Other specifications include FM radio, Bluetooth 4.2, Wi-Fi B / G / N, 4G VOLETE, USB OTG, Ambient Light Sensor, Proximity Sensor, Accelerometer and Gyroscope.

The interesting thing is that the Honor 9 Light made better results than the Honor 7X and Honor 9I in the benchmark test.

Recently launched Honor View 10 by Honor, the Honor 9 Light also runs out of the box Android 8.0 Oreo. By the way, the company’s skin EMUI 8 is on top of the latest version of Android. There is a feature called Huawei Share, which works like Apple’s AirDrop technology.

The Wi-Fi + feature automatically switches between Wi-Fi and mobile data. It will depend on the position of the connection. When we restart our router, this phone’s Wi-Fi + feature is working. This feature was trying to check which internet connection is strong in mobile data and Wi-Fi. Finally after checking it added the phone to Wi-Fi.

The settings of the settings app is good. You can make backups of contact, calendar, Wi-Fi credentials, SMS messages and call logs. However, it is not clear how much storage will be available to you. You will not be able to back up data from third-party applications.

Honor 9 Lite Performance

Honor’s EMUI works well on Android Orio. But this stock is not as fast as Android’s. EMUI is quite different from Google’s Material Design Language. But it is good to look and work well. Despite having 4GB RAM, the phone slowed down while searching in the settings app. However, this complaint did not get us repeatedly.

The touch response of display is good. We have not any complaints from call quality. The processor is fully capable for keeping good experience of multitasking. There was no problem playing simple games. However, framerate collapses in game with powerful graphics such as Asphalt 8. This phone is easily heated. For example, after downloading the app from the Play Store and singing with it, the upper part of the Honor 9Light became slightly hot.

The phone runs 1080p resolution video playback very smooth. More videos with higher resolutions can also run smoothly. In the default video player, you will have the option to stretch the video screen.

Honor 9 Lite Camera

Now talking about the most important feature of this phone. The primary camera is 13 megapixels on both parts of Honor 9 Light. There is also a depth sensor of 2 megapixels on both sides. With the help  of depth sensor, you can get the Bokeh effect. For this, you have to select one of the Portrait or Wide Alert mode in the Camera app.

Photos taken in daylight were good on the handset’s display. Autofocus is fast and the data is clearly visible in landscape mode. However, Colors is a little dull. When zooming in to the pictures, the noses are seen in dark areas. In less light, the performance of Honor 9 Light is seen in the same reduction in the rest of the smartphone in this price range. Focus is slowed down. The details are not clear. Especially the edges become sharper.

With the help of wide aperture mode, you get the extraction value of (F / 0.95 – F / 13), which allows you to adjust the depth of field before and after taken photo. However, in our investigation, the blur effect is not very effective, the blurred photo with F / 2.0 aperture value resembles Photoshop. In the same way, there is also a portrait mode, which works just as well. In this you will not be able to apply blur effect while taking photos. Also the toggle of Bokeh have been given in it, but this is not particularly effective, because the photos already come with Bokeh effect. The Bokeh effect is better than wide aperture mode, but the sides of the subject are not often defined. With this also takes considerable time to focus.

Shooting modes like professional and panorama have been given for photography lovers. Features like filters and HDR have also been added to the phone. Along with this, the phone will sign your smile with ‘Touch Capture’ and your picture will be automatically clicked.

Talking about video recording, you will be able to record videos up to 1080 pixels. Video is a very measurable record. Since there is no feature of image stabilization, then the video has a moving record. Photos taken in low light are not very clean. The quality of selfie taken from the front camera is better. Beauty mode is attractive along with the screen flash and you will also be able to take good pictures in low light. You will also find video recordings up to 1080 pixels from the front camera. If you have turned on Beauty mode, the quality of the video will remain at most 720 pixels.

There are some gesture modes in it for selfies. You will be able to take self from using your palm or your voice. Apart from this, if you call ‘cheese’ loudly in your hands, then the gesture sensor will click your picture. Speaking of portrait mode, the front camera is also of superior quality.

Honor 9 Lite Battery

Honor 9 Lite Battery

Now come to Honor 9 Lite battery. Actually, in the case of Battery, Honor’s previous smartphones were not able to show anything special despite the 7x and 9i large size batteries. In our video loop test, 9 lights played 10 hours 3 minutes non-HD video, which can not be called very good.

We found that even using Asphalt 8 for 10 minutes, the battery is falling by 5 to 10 percent, which can be a matter of concern. There is no feature like Fast Charging on the smartphone. The charging 10 watt that comes with the phone takes hours to charge 60 percent of the battery. To reduce the power consumption, the user has been given the option to turn the HD Plus screen resolution on / off.

Honor 9 Lite Verdict

18: 9 If you add value to the trend of aspect ratios, then cheap variant of Honor 9 Light is currently the best option in the market. The price of this variant is 11,000 rupees. There is also one thing to note that presently the Honor 7X is in the market, which may not be an extra camera but a metal body, large screen and a larger battery is expected.

We tested the variant of 4 GB RAM that is a little expensive according to its specification. The phone looks good but battery power and camera quality are not very good. In the range of Rs 15,000, the market already has phones like Xiaomi MI A1and Moto G5S Plus. Though these phones do not have a long screen, which are in trend now, but in terms of performance, these phones are more powerful than Honor 9 light.

If you are not in a hurry, then recently Xiaomi Redmi launched in China can wait for 5 Plus to come to India, which will also be priced around Honor 9 Light.
